Where Else to Sell in 2026, Compared on Fees Rather Than Audience Size
Most eBay alternative lists rank platforms by how many users they have. That number tells you nothing about what you will keep. Here are the fee structures instead, verified against each platform's own published terms in August 2026.
The short version: Mercari is the cheapest on ordinary items, Poshmark is the most expensive by a wide margin, and eBay beats both once the price climbs high enough.
The three structures side by side
eBay, United States, from our own fee data at version 2026-07-24. The final value fee is tiered: 13.6 percent on the portion of a sale up to 7,500 dollars, then 2.35 percent above that. Add a per-order fee of 40 cents on orders over 10 dollars, 30 cents at or below. The percentage varies by category, so 13.6 is a default rather than a universal rate. Listing allowances are free up to a point, then insertion fees apply, and Store subscriptions lower the rate from the Basic tier upward.
Mercari, verified against its own fee page. A flat 10 percent selling fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. No payment processing fee for sellers. No listing fee. No subscription. Buyers separately pay a 3.6 percent Buyer Protection fee.
Poshmark, verified against its Legal Center notice effective 24 October 2024. A flat 2.95 dollars on sales of 15 dollars and under, and 20 percent on sales above 15 dollars. No listing fee and no subscription. In Canada the thresholds differ: a flat 3.95 Canadian dollars under 20 Canadian dollars, 20 percent above, plus GST or HST on the Poshmark fee, paid by the seller.
What that does to a fifty dollar sale
Mercari takes five dollars. You keep forty-five.
eBay takes six dollars eighty plus forty cents, so seven twenty. You keep forty-two eighty.
Poshmark takes ten dollars. You keep forty.
The spread between best and worst is five dollars on a fifty dollar item, which is ten percent of the sale price. On a hundred items a year that is five hundred dollars decided by nothing except which app you opened.
The Poshmark threshold trap
Poshmark's flat 2.95 on low value sales sounds generous and mostly is not.
At exactly 15 dollars, 20 percent would be three dollars, so the flat fee saves you five cents. Below that it gets worse quickly: on a ten dollar sale the flat fee is 2.95 against a hypothetical two dollars.
Run it properly. The flat fee equals 20 percent at 14.75 dollars. Below 14.75, the flat 2.95 costs you more than the percentage would have. On a five dollar item, Poshmark takes 59 percent.
That is the real reason experienced Poshmark sellers bundle. A bundle is one transaction, so one fee, and three ten dollar items sold together pay six dollars rather than 8.85.
Where eBay wins
Neither Mercari nor Poshmark tiers. Both charge their percentage to infinity.
eBay drops to 2.35 percent above 7,500 dollars. On an eight thousand dollar sale eBay takes 1,032.15 while Mercari takes 800 and Poshmark takes 1,600.
Mercari is still cheaper at eight thousand, but the lines cross at around eleven thousand dollars, after which eBay is the cheapest of the three and the gap widens with every further thousand. Poshmark never crosses at all. At a flat 20 percent against eBay's 13.6, eBay costs less at every price point, including the small sales where Poshmark's flat fee bites hardest.
If you handle watches, cameras, machinery or high-end collectables, this single structural difference outweighs everything else on this page.
What the percentages do not tell you
Poshmark's 20 percent includes a prepaid label. The buyer normally pays for it, and payment processing is inside the commission. Comparing 20 against Mercari's 10 without accounting for that is not comparing like with like, though it does not close a ten point gap either.
eBay's rate moves in both directions. Top Rated Seller status cuts the final value fee by 10 percent of the fee amount. Below Standard adds 6 percent. An item not as described case adds 5 percent. Store subscriptions lower the base rate from Basic upward. Neither alternative has any of this, which makes them simpler and also flatter.
Category matters on eBay and not on the others. Mercari and Poshmark apply one rate to everything. eBay's 13.6 is a default that some categories sit well below. If yours is one of them, the comparison changes before anything else is considered.
Listing costs only exist on eBay. Mercari and Poshmark charge nothing to have inventory sitting unsold. For a slow-moving catalogue that difference can exceed the commission difference entirely.
Payouts and how long the money takes
Fee rate decides how much you keep. Payout terms decide when you get it, and for anyone reinvesting in stock that is the constraint that actually bites.
Mercari holds earnings until the buyer rates the transaction or three days pass after delivery. ACH withdrawal is free, capped at one per day, with a two dollar charge only on rejected transactions. Instant Pay costs three dollars and lands in about thirty minutes. A seller reaching for Instant Pay weekly spends around a hundred and fifty six dollars a year on speed alone.
Poshmark releases earnings after the buyer accepts the item or the acceptance window closes, and its return window is narrow by marketplace standards.
eBay's payout timing depends on account standing and history, and new sellers routinely see holds that established sellers do not. That difference catches people who move platforms expecting the terms they had elsewhere.
None of this appears in a fee comparison table, and for a seller running on thin working capital it can matter more than three percentage points.
The platforms not covered here
Depop, Etsy, Whatnot, Vinted and Facebook Marketplace all take eBay volume, and each has its own structure.
We have not quoted their rates because we have not yet verified them against those companies' own published terms, and marketplace fee structures change often enough that repeating a number from a comparison article is how stale figures spread. Mercari alone has changed its structure three times in two years, including a period with no seller fee at all.
If a page gives you a confident number for eight platforms without saying when each was checked, treat all eight as unverified.
How to actually choose
Fee rate is the smallest of the three variables that decide your outcome.
The largest is sale price. A platform charging five points more that returns twenty percent higher prices is cheaper in every way that matters. Clothing often sells higher on Poshmark and Depop than on eBay despite the fee difference, because the audience arrived looking for clothing.
The second is speed. Inventory that sits is capital that is not working, and a platform that clears stock in two weeks beats one that clears it in three months at a lower fee.
Fee rate is the tiebreaker, not the decision. Which is why cross-listing is what most established resellers actually do: list everywhere, remove it wherever it sells first, and let the fee difference be a rounding error against the sale you would not otherwise have made.
Before committing either way, run the specific item. Our itemized guide to every eBay fee covers each deduction including the surcharges most comparisons omit, our head to head on Mercari and eBay goes deeper on those two, and the fee calculator will run your category and price.
